Ronald K. Ancell, 85, of rural Mendon, Illinois, passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. He was born on April 29, 1936, in Quincy, Illinois to Charles & Alma (Stark) Ancell. He married Suzanne Furry on March 2, 1957. She survives.
Ron was a graduate of Quincy High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force for three years. After returning, he worked for Broadcast Electronics in Quincy, Illinois for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Suzanne Ancell; daughters: Karen Tripp, Peggy (Tony) Padavic and Mary (Alan) King, all of Mendon; sons: Harold Ancell of Mendon, Chuck (Janet) Ancell of Quincy, Illinois, and William (Mel) Ancell of Mendon; twelve grandchildren: Tracy Iverson, Jeremy (April) Tripp, Paige (fiancé Justin) Padavic, Danielle (Duane) Comes, Andy (Brittany) King, Jenny King, Ashleigh (Austin) Zanger, Alycia (Alex) Ancell, Aaron Ancell, Audrey Ancell, Jason Zwick, Joey (Jill) Zwick; twenty-two great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; sisters: June (Loren) Wiewel of Quincy and Janice Walton of Georgetown, South Carolina. Many nieces, nephews and other family members survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings: Robert Ancell, Irene Bosse, Maxine Hubbs, Louise Meyer, and Jackie Wiewel.
Ron was of the Christian faith and enjoyed reading his Bible. He also enjoyed playing the banjo, listening to blue grass and visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was lovingly known as “Popeye” to his family. A special thanks to Tracy Iverson and Karen Tripp for their loving care.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Mendon Cemetery in Mendon, Illinois with Chaplain Richard Martin officiating. Interment will be in Mendon Cemetery with Military Rites by the United States Air Force Funeral Honor Detail and the Bear Creek American Legion Post # 823.
