QUINCY -- Norma Shuler, 85, of Quincy, passed away at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Sycamore Healthcare Center after 12 years as a resident following a stroke.

Born June 10, 1930, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy to Alvin and Sarah Taylor Schlipman of rural Coatsburg, she grew up on the family farm learning the related skills for a good life.

She attended a rural, one-room grade school, Center School, north of Paloma, graduating in 1944. She then attended Mendon High School, graduating in the Class of 1948. She participated in many 4-H activities and was baptized and confirmed in her teens as a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Coatsburg.

Norma was employed in the accounting department at Moorman Manufacturing Company through the 1950s along with her sister Wilma, who preceded her in passing.

On April 11, 1959, she married Olin Shuler. He survives, along with a son, William Shuler of Quincy, and a daughter Elizabeth, Mrs. Fred Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Quincy, and active for many years.

In 1968, she entered Quincy College as a freshman and earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1972. From 1972 to 1983 she was employed by Quincy School System, Blessing Hospital, Cummins Engine Company and Manpower Services.

A talented and avid square dancer, she and Olin were members of the Silver Dollar Square Dance Club and also active in the Great River Genealogical Society. Other interests included travel, reading, needlework, antiques, gardening, music and a cottage and log cabin on three acres near Lima.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Christ Lutheran Church, 333 S. 36th, Quincy, with the Rev. Gayle Pope officiating. Interment will be in the Mendon Cemetery in Mendon.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.

MEMORIALS: Christ Lutheran Church.

ARRANGEMENTS: Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon.
