Rushville

Norma Jean Heitz, 93, of Rushville, passed away peacefully at 8:05 am on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

 

She was born on July 19, 1930, in Schuyler County, the daughter of the late Parker & Eva (Vincent) Unger. Norma Jean married Robert Heitz on November 17, 1950, at the First Christian Church of Rushville and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2013. 

 

Norma Jean was a schoolteacher for much of her working life, specializing in remedial reading. She taught school for the Schuyler County School District for more than 40 years until her retirement. She loved teaching and enjoyed her students through the years. 

 

She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Rushville, a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and a member of Business & Professional Women. Norma Jean enjoyed television and liked watching Chicago Cubs baseball, the news and MeTV. Reading, coloring pictures and enjoying ice cream were some of Norma Jeans favorite pastimes. 

 

Norma Jean is survived by her son; Kevin (Clara) Heitz of Jacksonville, her daughter; Kim (Vern) McBride of Macomb, three grandchildren; Josh (Emily) Waggener, Ozzy (Kenzi) Clements & Olivia (Kyle) Schone, three great grandchildren; Leni Jean, Hank & J.J., her sister; Karen Bockwitz of Rushville and by several nieces, nephews & by a dear friend and caregiver; Connie Pepple of Rushville. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Janet Darlene and by a brother; Orvall Unger. 

 

Funeral services honoring Norma Jean’s life will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the First Christian Church of Rushville. Pastor Bill Rucker will preside. Interment will follow at Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services at the church. The Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville has been entrusted with the care and arrangements. Memorial contributions in memory of Norma Jean are suggested to the First Christian Church of Rushville.
