Merle Hildebrand

Merle George Hildebrand, 80, of Mendon, Illinois passed away at 3:10 AM on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.  He was born on March 14, 1941 a son of Len and Elsie (Blickhan) Hildebrand at St. Mary’s Hospital in Quincy.  He married Dory Klingele on May 4, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Quincy, Illinois.

Survivors include his wife, Dory Hildebrand of Mendon, two children, Greg Hildebrand and wife Tammy of Mendon, and Chrissy Lerch and Gary of Stonington, Illinois, grandchildren, Jordan Hildebrand, Chase Hildebrand and his wife Jacqueline and great grandchild, Adeline Hildebrand, brothers, Paul Hildebrand and wife Norma, Philip Hildebrand and wife Jeannie, David Hildebrand and wife Mary Ann, sisters, Margie Venvertloh husband Gene, Edie Aschemann, Carolyn Ankrom and husband Jim, and Peggy Kindhart, sister-in-law Marilyn Hildebrand and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alvin Hildebrand, brothers-in-law, Carl Aschemann and Darrell Kindhart, and nephew, Bradley Hildebrand.

He was a Quincy Notre Dame graduate.  Merle was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Western Catholic Union and Local 965.  He worked for Stevens Construction Company early in his career as an operator and later for Rees Construction Company in Quincy, Illinois, until his retirement.  Merle loved staying busy.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and watching his grandchildren play sports.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 7, 2021 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church with Fr. Jeff Stone officiating.  Interment will follow at Mendon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 until 11:00AM at the Church in Mendon, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church or to the American Red Cross.
