Mary Ellen (McGartland) Martin, 92, of the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, formerly of Loraine passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy.

Mary Ellen was born on January 14, 1924 in Camp Point. She was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Frieda (Jurgens) McGartland. She married Leaton J. Martin on June 21, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona. Leaton passed away on December 8,1986.

Mary Ellen was a member of the Loraine Methodist Church. She was Assistant Post Master in Loraine beginning her career with the post office in 1966 as a part-time Clerk, retiring in 1992. Mary Ellen and Leaton owned L&M Express in Loraine as well as a filling station operated out of their home. She was a cook at Loraine Grade School and loved kids.

Surviving are; one brother, Glenn (Barbara) McGartland of Camp Point, four sisters, Eileen Boden of Quincy, Carole Kuhn of Lima, Marie Robinson of Riverton, Donna Jean (Virgil) Haschemeyer of Camp Point and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Don, Gerald, Ray, Howard and Robert McGartland.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Reverend Connie Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in the New Loraine Cemetery in Loraine.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Loraine Methodist Church. You are invited to share memories and leave condolences at www.hunterfuneralhomes.com.
