Linda Sue Ward, 74, of Rushville, passed away peacefully at 6:38 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Born October 13, 1950, in Beardstown IL, she was the daughter of the late Freiley and Dorothy Helen (Termin) Pigg. On September 7, 1968, she married Robert M. Ward Sr., at Sugar Grove Methodist Church in Rushville. He survives.
Linda was a familiar and beloved presence in Schuyler County. She served as County Clerk for 12 years until her retirement in 2014. Before that, she worked in the offices of Alesia McMillen and Bob Jones. Known for her warm heart and quiet dedication, Linda gave back to her community in many ways. She was a devoted volunteer for Meals on Wheels and regularly donated her rare blood type at local drives, always hoping to help someone in need.
Linda cherished simple joys: early morning walks with her best friend Betty Roberts, traveling to see her friends and family, and also starting each day with a hot black coffee from Casey’s. But above all, Linda loved her family. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 56 years, Bob, Linda is survived by her son, Robert (Dana) Ward Jr. of Commerce, Georgia; her daughter, Shari (Brad) Thurman of Rushville; five grandchildren, Reanna (Ethan) Davis, Cole (Kattie) Thurman, Brianna (Shane) Hall, Rylee Thurman (Blake Risler), and Mason Ward; and seven great-grandchildren, Kahli, Myles, Kambri, Lily, Emmitt, Asher, and Sam. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Richard “Dickie” Pigg; and two sisters, Mary Fuqua and Ruth McMillen.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
