Leona A. Ihnen, 89, of Golden, passed away at 8:15 AM, Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the Golden Good Shepherd Home.
She was born on October 18, 1931, in Adams County, Illinois, the daughter of Klaus G. and Alice J. (Leenerts) Ihnen.
Surviving are several nephews and nieces Derik (Alicia) Ihnen of Augusta, Alison (Paul) Tieman of Liberty, Debbie (Gary) Taute of Camp Point, Randy (Angie) Ihnen of Hamilton, Melanie Kroeger of Quincy, Paula Ihnen of Quincy and Patty Ihnen of Beardstown, and several great and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers Irvin, Edward and Melvin Ihnen and a niece Pam Janssen.
A 1949 graduate of Golden High School, she first worked as a switchboard operator for Illinois Bell in Golden. She later worked as a key punch operator for Citizens Data in Quincy for 26 years, retiring when the company closed in the late 1980’s. After her retirement, she volunteered as an EMT and driver for the 3 Adam 19 ambulance service, for many years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden and served on the boards of the Golden Historical Society and the Friends of the Library. She always helped her brothers with the family farms. She was a prolific embroiderer, leaving boxes and boxes of her work. She loved to volunteer at community events from the Lions Club Pancake Day to the Marigold Festival. She spoke her mind and was always the fun aunt.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the Hunter Funeral Home in Golden with Pastor Thomas Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the Golden Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:0 0 AM, Wednesday at the Hunter Funeral Home in Golden. Memorials are suggested to Golden Good Shepherd Home, the Golden Historical Society or the Friends of the Library.
