June C. Fuqua, 96, of Rushville, passed away at 7:05 pm on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Mt. Sterling Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Sterling.
She was born on July 9, 1928, in Schuyler County, the daughter of the late Earl & Mary (Richardson) Royer. June married Maurice Lozelle Fuqua on March 17, 1946, in Virginia, and he preceded her in death on February 26, 2008.
June worked in several different capacities throughout her life. She worked in the business office of Culbertson Memorial Hospital for 23 years, she worked for the Rushville-Industry High School as a cook for eight years and later worked in the office of the Schuyler County Circuit Clerk for two years, retiring in 2002. June was a member of the First Christian Church of Rushville. She was known as a terrific cook and some of her well-known dishes included pies, homemade noodles and most notably, angel food cake. June loved her family, especially her grandchildren & great grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons; Randall Fuqua of Rushville & Steve (Debbie) Fuqua of Rushville, two daughters; Sheila (Rodney) Cain of Rushville & Debra (David) Carlock of Mt. Sterling, grandchildren; Kelly (Matt) Sommers, Dustin (Krista) Finch, Curtis (Tammie) Finch, Ryan Fuqua, Justin Fuqua and Kyle Clayton, step-grandchildren; Guy Cain, Brook (Dale Rhoads) Carlock and Benjamin Carlock, great grandchildren; Emmett Fuqua, Wyatt Fuqua, Landen Sommers, Raegan Sommers, Maddox Sommers, Lincoln Clayton, Easton Finch, Zoe Griffin, Nora Finch and Wrenlee Clayton, step great-grandchildren; Tandilyn & Aaron Cain and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents & husband, June was preceded in death by four children; Cynthia Hays & Gloria Fuqua, a daughter in infancy; Betty Ann Fuqua, and a son in infancy; Roger Lozelle Fuqua, a grandson; Damon Kessler, four brothers; Virgil, Russell, Eldon & Wayne Royer and by two sisters; Sylvia Harrison & Twyla Rice.
Funeral services honoring June’s life will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville. Interment will follow at the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of June are suggested to the First Christian Church of Rushville or to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
