EWING, Mo. -- John H. Priepot Jr., 93, of Ewing, Mo. formerly of Mendon, Ill., died at 6:37 a.m. Monday (Jan. 20, 2014 in the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

Mr. Priepot was born on September 7, 1920, in Lima, Ill. He was the son of the late John J. and Hannah Ketchum Priepot. He married Ramah Jean Shaul on Aug. 19, 1940, in Fort Madison, Iowa. Mrs. Priepot died on March 12, 1999.

Mr. Priepot served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a teacher and principal at Loraine Elementary School in Loraine, Ill., for 35 years, retiring on June 1, 1982. He was a part-time farmer and worked construction in the summers. He worked for Baker Builders for 30 years and Jim Hesse for five years, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Priepot was a member of the United Methodist Church of Loraine, lifetime member of the P.T.A, member of the Masters Club and the Adams County Retired Teachers Club. He was very active in the Tri-State Blue Grass Association and attended many festivals in the area. He also donated several gallons of blood to the American Red Cross over the years. He and his wife wintered in Mission, Texas for many years.

Surviving are two daughters, Kay (Jim) Jackson of Ewing, Lois Kern of Mission, Texas; three sons, Daryl (Lynn) Priepot of Quincy, John J. Priepot III (Sheila) of Cuba, Terry L. (Jana) Priepot of Quincy; 14 grandchildren, Robin (Jeff) Irvin of Quincy, Lori Priepot and her partner, Phyllis, of Westchester, Ill., Joseph (Jessica) Harig of Quincy, Ill., JaKay (Bryan) Hammock of Hannibal, Justin Jackson of Ewing, Mo., Jennifer Auclair of Plainfield, Ill., Stacy Wheeler of Canton, Ill., Dale R. Kern Jr. (Michele) of Palmyra, Mo., Carolyn (J.R.) Smith of Lincoln, Neb., Barbara (Robert) Lawrence of Springfield, Mo., Amy (Dan) Zimmerman stationed in Hawaii, Michelle Kern of Arbela, Mark Priepot of Bolingbrook, Ill., Jeffrey (Ineke) Priepot of Antioch, Tenn.; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Warren Priepot of Winchester,Ill.; one sister-in-law, Sharon (Ron) Eberle of Ursa, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Conkwright; one brother, Lesley Priepot and one grandson, Jason Jackson.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church of Loraine, with the Reverend Connie Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa, Ill.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon, Ill.

MEMORIALS: Community Unit School District Unit 4 Foundation, Loraine Fire Department or American Red Cross.
