James Dale “Jim” Greene, 87, of Rushville, passed away peacefully at 2:20 am on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville.
He was born on February 26, 1937, in Schuyler County, the son of the late Ralph & Lola (Estes) Greene. Jim graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1955. After graduation, he served in the United States Army, completing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and later stationed in Mineral Wells, Texas & San Antonio, Texas. He married Nancy Rinehart on December 15, 1963, at the First Christian Church of Rushville (Disciples of Christ) and she preceded him in death on December 26, 2016.
Jim worked for Schuyler-Brown FS as a salesman and later as the plant manager of the Camden FS facility, retiring in 1999. Jim was a 50-year member of the Camden Masonic Lodge AF&AM #648 and served many years on the Schuyler County Fair Board as the Swine Superintendent. Jim was a Buena Vista Township Trustee, a member of the Mental Health 708 Board, and a volunteer Rules of the Road instructor. He was a horse enthusiast and was a member of the Rushville Saddle Club, enjoying many local trail rides and trips to Eminence, Missouri. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed taking hunting trips to Southern Illinois with his friends Larry Wilson & Duey Skinner.
Jim is survived by his sons; Randy Greene of Rushville & Gregory (Kelly) Greene of Rushville, nine grandchildren; Jordon Greene, Taylor Ross (Nick), Madison Greene, Carson Greene, Dylan Greene, Parker Greene, Sophia Greene, Rowen Greene & Cooper Greene, four great grandchildren; Kendrick Ross, Kaiya Ross, Michael Lyons & Colton Lyons, a brother; Joseph Lee (Joan) Greene of Springfield and by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services honoring Jim's life will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville. Pastor Bill Rucker will preside. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jim are suggested to the First Christian Church of Rushville or to Hope Blooms. Private family inurnment will be arranged at a later date.
