Harvey William Brinton, 96, of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy and formerly of Galesburg & Vermont, passed away at 9:44 am on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, with family by his side. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on February 14, 1928, in Vermont, the son of the late William Brinton & Vera (Bucy) Brillhart. Harvey married Dorothy Wenstrom on May 25, 1953, in Knoxville and she survives.
Harvey was a veteran of World War II. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly after turning 17. As a Seaman 2nd Class, he was on the U.S.S. L.S.T #172 in August of 1945, preparing for the invasion of Japan. After his dedicated service, he returned to Illinois and began a career as a union bricklayer. He worked as a bricklayer for over 50 years, retiring when he was 78. He was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers Union Local #8 in Peoria. He was an avid airplane enthusiast and enjoyed flying planes. He enjoyed working with wood and in his younger years, enjoyed tinkering with go-carts.
In addition to his wife of 71 years, Dorothy, of Quincy, Harvey is survived by three children; William Michael (Angela) Brinton of Inverness, Florida, Cynthia (Richard) Iannaci of Jacksonville, Florida & William Kent (Karen Cook) Brinton of Brentwood, Tennessee, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters; Leona Dorothy & Mary Root, a half sister; Patricia (Ken) Weaver, a half brother ; Caleb (Teresa) Brinton and by several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by two sisters; Shirley Smith & Norma Standard.
Funeral services honoring Harvey’s life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville. Pastor Charla Meyers will officiate. Interment will follow at the Rushville City Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy & The Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Harvey are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the First Lutheran Church of Galesburg.
