Donald Lee Schuman, 88, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Rushville, Illinois, passed away at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Tiffany Springs Rehab Center, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on February 14, 1935, in Astoria, Illinois, a son of Harold and Bernice (Rebman) Schuman. He married Helen I. Redmond on September 17, 1988, at the First Christian Church in Rushville, Illinois. She survives.
Don attended Manual Training High School in Peoria, IL and Northwestern University. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and in the Air National Guard from 1952 – 1960. Don worked as an Asst Manager at Kroger Co., in Peoria, Manager at Butler Super Marker in Farmington, Regional Sales Manager at Nabisco Brands for 34 years. Sales and Marketing Director of Culbertson Gardens Independent Living in Rushville and Director on the board of Farmers State Bank in Astoria. He was a member of the First Christian Church and United Methodist Church, Past Master of the Rushville Masonic Lodge AM & FM #9, Rushville Moose lodge, Beardstown Elks, Schuyler County Food Basket, Alderman Ward 3 and 4. Don enjoyed playing Golf. He was an avid hunter who liked hunting for ducks, pheasant, and geese with his sons and grandsons. Don always looked forward to his Elk hunting trips to Montana with friends. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking.

(Tim) Prawat of Astoria, IL., Carol Ann (Sam) Lucido of Long Grove, IL., stepsons, Greg (Genny) McKeown, Dixon, KY., Rick (Debbie) McKeown, Bradenton, FL., stepdaughters, Pam (Desi) Reeves, Kansas City, MO., Barb (Teresa Wood) McKeown, Kansas City, MO, grandchildren, Brooke (Donna Taylor) Schuman, Eric (Ashley) Schuman, Bob (Stephanie) Christian, Megan Petersen, Matt Prawat, Amanda Conway, Cody (Lacy) Smith, Max Smith, Chloe Lucido, Sydney Lucido, Sophia Lucido, Shauna Schuman, step grandchildren, Seth (Ashley) McKeown, Casey McKeown, Nicholas, Olivia & Jeremiah Reeves, Cole, Andrew & Skyler Wood-McKeown; great grandchildren, Hazel & Harrison Schuman, Gabriel & Oliver Christian, Kailey Brouillet, Aiden Prawat, Zoey & Charlotte Conway, Nash Smith, Knox Klink, Jasmine & Jaylyn Hutchens, Nevaeh Helton; step great granddaughter, Penny McClary. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James A. Schuman; daughter Crystal Lynn Knott and granddaughter Lindsey Prawat.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 9, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, IL. Pastor Stacy Tomich to officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, IL. The graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force Funeral Detail and American Legion Post #9. Memorial contributions in memory of Donald are suggested to Culbertson Memorial Hospital or to the First United Methodist Church.
