Candace Gronewold

July 5, 1958 — February 20, 2018

Candace J. “Candy" Gronewold, 59, of Payson passed away peacefully in the home of her sister, Cathy in Mendon on Monday, February 19, 2018.

Candy was born on July 5, 1958 in Quincy to the late Luther J. and Jeanne (Christy) Miller.

Candy fought a long battle with metastatic breast cancer for over 10 years. Most of the time you would never know she was suffering from a devastating disease; Candy just refused to succumb to it.  She took one day at a time and made the best of every day. Her strength and perseverance was rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ who sustained her, even in death. Cancer tried her faith and that faith stood firm because God was nourishing it and shaping it through it all. Her greatest love in life was singing.  It began early in life for herself and for her glory, but when God saved her, her greatest joy was to sing His praises for His glory. She felt rejuvenated every time she led in song within the context of the church service. She attended many rehearsals and sang almost every Sunday.  Her church family at the Lutheran Church of St. John’s were very dear and close to her heart.

Candy was also an avid dog lover. She loved her Doberman Pinschers, Vince and Tidas, and the last pet she owned at the time of her death, a mixed breed she got through the animal shelter, Axel.   When Candy smiled her face shined.  She worked for about 20 years at State Street Bank and had many wonderful friends she had made over those years. They were very kind and supportive to her in many ways.

Survivors include one son, Jack Gronewold, Jr., and his wife Jennifer of Quincy, one grandson, Adrian Gronewold of the home; one brother, James Miller of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Connie Weinreich of Kansas City, Mo., Cathy Flick of Mendon; three aunts, Janet Ehrhardt of Quincy; Lucille Haschemeyer, Phyllis Brueggeman of Quincy and Betty Miller of Texas; one uncle, Otis Miller of Quincy, two nephews, Matthew (Pam) Weinreich of Kansas City and Clayton Flick of Quincy: two nieces, Mindy Freeman of Kansas City, Camber Flick of Mendon and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by a niece, Kristi (Miller) Wight and one grandson, Christian Jack Gronewold.

A celebration of life memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of St. John's Church in Quincy with a fellowship hour immediately following at the church.  Memorials contributions have been suggested the Lutheran Church of St. John's or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
