Betty Johnson

Betty Jean Johnson, 94, of Rushville, IL passed away on November 10, 2022,  at 9:40 am, at Hannibal Regional Hospital. 

She was born October 15, 1928, in LaMoine Township in McDonough County, the daughter of George Clarence and Ruth Hazel Pickinpaugh McCutchan. She married Carroll A. Johnson on August 20, 1961. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Dr. Harold McCutchan and William McCutchan. 

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Wilson (husband Loren) of Lincoln, son Garry Johnson (wife Carrie) of Rushville, granddaughter, Ali Wilson of Marion, Iowa, sister Patricia Green of Abingdon, IL a sister in law Julia McCutchan of Princeton, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. 

She graduated from Plymouth High School and Western Illinois University with a Bachelor's degree in Business and Home Economics.  She taught business and home economics in Argyle, Iowa and Rochelle, IL. 

Above all, she loved spending time with her family, church family, and many friends.  She belonged to the Rushville First United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher of the Goodwill Class and was a member of the United Methodist Women.  She also belonged to Home Extension, Retired Teachers, Schuyler Women’s Club, and volunteered at the Schuyler County Jail Museum and at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital running the juice cart service. 

Betty loved to use her hands and crocheted many Christmas decorations and “scrubbies.”  She was an accomplished seamstress repairing and making many clothes.  She loved to attend her family’s sporting events and hardly ever missed watching a NASCAR race. 

The visitation will be 5-7PM on Monday, November 14 at Triplett-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00PM at the Rushville First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 15th.  A burial will follow in Plymouth Rosemont Cemetery. 

Memorials are suggested to the Rushville First United Methodist Church.
